Electro-vocal collective BNDT, birthed and led by the beat-driven compositions and meaningful word of producer and long-time “the church” drummer, Bandit (Timothy Powles), announces their single release, the autobiographical and anthemic “Goodtimes 4 Free”.
This track is inspired by a wish to remind us to party when we need to, with a nod to 1993’s sports comedy movie Cool Runnings, “we party hard, we party like Jamaica”.
A track conjured up largely on a phone app flying from Sydney to Perth with his band The Church, here Bandit documents his life journey. Jamming direct lyrical imagery plucked from the discographies that have influenced him along the way, he comments via phone messages “this made me happy, this makes happy”. It feels like the perfect time to remind us that we’re ever-free to summon memories that bring back happiness, at will. Goodtimes, for free, and remember how that makes you feel.

Drawn from a decade of improvising with minds and machines, BNDT grows more by accident than design. Ambient pop moments tinged with melancholy. Infectious lo-fi sound and vision that’s simply not in a hurry to capitulate or compromise, errant shortwave radio joyously embraced then disregarded – there are no rules – but there’s a powerful BNDT universe to share in.
With a growing list of collaborators both aural and visual including Sydney’s most deliciously understated singers PhoenX AZ aka Finn Thomas and songstress Caitlin West aka Mz Lasting, BNDT falls from studio to stage, joined by fellow improviser Robbie Cain (producer-synthesist with Micra) and Cain’s multi-instrumental band member Liam Roffe.
